    installed programs don't show up

I just installed 11.04 yesterday (first time user) and tried to install handbrake and chrome and while the Software Center says that the programs are installed, they don't show up in my applications or through a search of file & folders. Any ideas?

Did you try pulling up that global menu with the huge icons, and then clicking on "Show all [number] of applications"?

I run into the from time to time with 10.10. when it happens, I pop open a terminal and start it from the CLI, after that it appears in the menu. I don't know if it will help with 11.04, but it works well in 10.10. also did you install the right version of handbreak? it comes as a CLI as well
