Is it possible to control the mouse with a gamepad? I suppose there is a plugin for that somewhere.

Yes, I downloaded a free program for windows which lets you assign mouse and keyboard buttons to control sticks and buttons on game pads. Heres a good program which is free to try:

You will probably not like using a gamepad instead of a keyboad and mouse - I certainly didn't. Yes it nice to have all the game keyboard actions assigned to buttons on a controller, but the control sticks don't come close to giving you the level of movement control you get with a mouse and keyboard.

Sorry, this Linux program might be what you want:

That program doesn't have support for ubuntu. Can ANYONE help? I have RSI and this gamepad is the ONLY thing from preventing my full switch to Ubuntu.
How about using WINE with a Windows application like jmouse or Joystick 2 Mouse? I don't know if it'll work, but it might be worth a try.

I somehow am having problems with that. I know that it happened after I installed joystick, joy2key, and inputattach from Package Manager. I'm trying to get it to stop, so please tell me if works or not. Please note that you may have to reboot. It stops after I uninstall joystick.

well ubuntu will automatically load the driver for the gamepad but that is only if you want to play an ubuntu native game. but there are patches to play games in wine with a gamepad. all of these are specific to the game so some games might not have a patch yet.
