Gnome Panel Background

I moved my Gnome Panel to the right side of the screen and made it wider (small tablet with touch screen) and set the panel background to a solid color however several of the panel applets continue to use a horizontal bar as their background. The issue is purely aesthetic but it's really annoying.

Changing my windowing theme did fix this.
