Burn the downloaded 8.04 as an iso, once that is done insert the 8.04 cd when running windows, it should give you the option to install it I believe.

No thats ok 8.04.1 is the update - ther are 2 types of wubi - the one you can download on it's own and the one that is on the 8.04.1 disc.
If you install with the small wubi standalone file it will go on line to download the rest of the os; you already have it - so if you run the cd, once it's burnt as an iso - it should give you the wubi install.
I did the iso on a dvd (694MB), reinserted the disk but nothing happened, then doubleclicked the iso & it goes in to Nero for another burn.
How do I run that iso to install 8.04.1? nick

Did you burn it aas an iso or image - if you burned it as data it's no good. If the disc is burnt properly then, assuming you have autorun on then it will load and ask - I haven't actually run it myself as I don't have windows
If you haven't got autorun - open it from the file manager - you should see wubi on the disc, double click it.
Here are thelinks for the wubi wiki and forum, which will probably come in handy over the next few days -
