    Best to do a clean install, but you will lose all your settings.

    If you want to update, then System > Administration > Software Sources > Installable from CDrom and DVD.

    For a complete system backup in a compressed file see this
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=81311

    You could also put all your files into a folder like home and compress that and put it on external media or a partition that won't get formatted.

    I goofed up, because I didn't backup my bookmarks, evolution emails/contacts. Next time I'll compress and backup the whole OS.

    Hope this helps!

    This looks really cool. I'll have to download it and try it out tonight.

    Sbackup --> http://sourceforge.net/projects/sbackup

    SBackup is a Simple Backup solution for Linux. It is generally developed with a Gnome desktop in mind, but will also work in other desktop environments and also on the console.
