    MS Patch Corrupts Compressed Files

Well, it looks like it's Microsoft's turn to have their QA department questioned....

Better check out those compressed files there!

So, bad QA affects even the biggest of companies. It's not just Ubuntu -- Microsoft does it too. And they've done it several times before, too.

EDIT: Looking at the timeline for this patch:

    August 8, 2006: First release
August 24, 2006: Re-release of patch, first time it didn't correct all the vulnerabilities.
August 24, 2006: Reports surface in newsgroups of corruption, confirmed that it is caused by this update.
Sept 11, 2006: Slashdot coverage, no word from Microsoft yet.

at least the recent breakage of X didn't cause data corruption which is a bit more debilitating than loss of a GUI for a few hours.
