Windows 8 vs Ubuntu - First Time User

My mum loves Windows xp and recently tried windows 8... SHE HATED IT. I then got her to try Ubuntu (she's never heard of it) and she loved it! I gave her a series of tasks to perform while using each operating system. On Windows 8 she struggled but on Ubuntu she succeeded! Check out the first time experience videos below:

This just goes to show that Ubuntu is much more intuitive than windows 8 even to loyal Microsoft users! If you know any other operating systems she should try go ahead and list them. They can be any OS's from any year including old operating systems such as Windows 1.0 (1985).

So out of Windows 8 and Ubuntu what OS would you prefer to use?

you got your mom when she was in a better boot for the ubuntu and you helped here more, try to be less biased in the future, bet she cat find shutdown in win8, you never showed her where all programs was, or have you figured that one out yet

Lol other people commented about how I "hand held" her through Ubuntu... I'll be much less helping in the future

About the Windows 1.0 video... there isn't one yet. I'll make one if people like those videos on youtube and request more.

Also... She rage quit on windows 8 so I never got to ask her to attempt turning off the computer. At least with Ubuntu it held her attention long enough to get her to the point of shutting it down.

you just hand held less on windows
when i first tried win8 i could not find the calc either, i cheated and use explorer.exe to go to the exe file, if i had never used compiz, gnome 3, or a mac before i never would have found the start corner
clicking the login screen is faster than scrolling, first time i saw that i was where is the login box, i figured out you can click it for the login screen (why should have to do that anyway?) i thought is locked up at 1st
i figured out right clicking the start screen gives me access to all programs, now that is what call hiding important stuff

MS office files do not convert perfectly to libre/open office

I think a little hand holding in both OS's would actually make for a better demo of them, basic stuff like a keyboard shortcut or two, this is how you close an app etc... This is where you roll your mouse to get something to magically appear. This is where you office applications are, this is how you find an application. Just cover the basics.
