Thumbs down Re: fan out loud on ubuntu 12.10

I would just like to come with some piece of advice. I worried like hell today when I couldn't find a solution to my laptop overheating. It seems it goes by default in "high performance mode".

I read on webupd8 about this ppa https://launchpad.net/~webupd8team/+archive/jupiter with a program called Jupiter. It works in the systray with a "flash" symbol and you can check the temperature of your laptop plus(and most importantly) choose between 3 modes: "Maximum performance"(no thanks, I don't want to burn my laptop today!), "Power on Demand" and "Power Saving"(yes plz plz plz!!! )
    Gnome3 on 12.04 LTS. MATE on 12.10.

I would install a sensor suit of some kind to tell you what your temps are. if the fan is on because tehy are high, fix that problem . if they are on cause they are dumb, fix that one, if they are loud cause tehy are failing, replace.

Re: fan out loud on ubuntu 12.10

i think the problem is clear now

jupiter cannot control CPU frequency when the laptop is plugged in.

for explain, when laptop is (plugged in) the CPU frequency is always be 2.39 GHz (the maximum).

on the other hand, when laptop on (battery) jupitor can scale the processers and fan sound is fairly normal.

although i always select (power saving mode) in all cases.

    sorry for my weak english.
