12.04.1 LTS iso/upgrade testing has begun

I received the first notifications tonight:

    http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/m...nes/230/builds

First of all I should mention that there will be no Lubuntu testing because it's not LTS, but I couldn't prefix this with "all variants except Lubuntu"

I know a lot of devout testers congregate here and this is an excellent time to raise the heat on any pet bugs in Precise, and also to test the iso's and the upgrade process.

IMHO those who are interested should probably wait until Sunday or Monday to begin because there will possibly be new spins, and the move to the new data center could possibly prove problematic.

I know I have three pet bugs to focus on:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...d/+bug/1019621

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...el/+bug/988290

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ty/+bug/987418

Feel free to join the party

Re: 12.04.1 LTS iso/upgrade testing has begun

I'd like to toss out a suggestion that anybody that running in a VM environment grab a 10.04.4 version of whatever Ubuntu flavour they use, install it, and save it as a base version. Then go through the 12.04.1 upgrade and see what happens. (My experience for 32-bit Desktop is Launchpad Bug 1038128.)

I suspect the upgrade paths are rather sparsely tested for fear of blowing an entire system out of the water. Just a quickly restoreable VM, not that big a deal.

I used "update-manager -d -c" to upgrade from Lucid to Precise on actual hardware and it completed OK but twice I was confronted with a dialog box that's unreadable and the process won't proceed w/o interaction so some (most) users could be lost:

I'm already testing Xubuntu and Ubuntu Studio. I will be testing the Ubuntu Desktop Image soon. Thanks to all the developers on making 12.04.1 possible.

I added some more screenshots regarding Lucid -> Precise upgrades here:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...573/comments/3

I rather imagine a lot of people would close those debconf windows improperly resulting in a butt-load of failed upgrades

This is a great idea actually. 10.04.4-12.04.1 is a hot upgrade path.. We should make sure it's smooth for those folks we want stability.

Indeed! Since we'd recommended that Lucid users wait for 12.04.1 I think this bug needs critical attention:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...n/+bug/1038573

I'm also not personally convinced that it's purely an 'evolution' bug so I'm going to try another test

It's time consuming but I feel it's quite worth while.

What I'm going to do different this time is try to copy-n-paste those goofy blank boxes to gedit and see if they're readable

Otherwise I think we're fairly good, I mean the bugs mentioned in my OP are certainly not insurmountable.
