Question Super button - quick search thing for xfce?

I've no idea what is this function called, so let me write it around
In Unity when you press the Super button (aka Windows button) a quick search pops up, in which you can search between your programs and can run them by pressing enter.
Now, I would like to try XFCE desktop environment and I was wondering if there is a program or setting that would make this possible in XFCE.
Also if you know the name of this function please let me know, as it quite hard to google on this with out the proper expression

xfce has the Application Finder (its in the accessories menu). You can assign it the super key shortcut via Settings Manager->Keyboard->Application Shortcuts tab.

The name of the executable is xfce4-appfinder

thanks Toz! now I can calmly install XFCE, with the knowledge that I'll have this. For me this is the only reason why I use Unity and not Ubuntu Classic, but thanks to you this shall change now!

It's a pretty popular idea. Gnome 3 has it, Gnome 2 has something like it (Alt-F2), KDE has it, scrotwm has it, and then you should be able to hack a package that does this onto just about anything.
Alt-F2 does work on XFCE (as I remember), so you might want to try that, too. It doesn't look for files, however.

It will in the next version (4.10). They are going to merge xfrun (Alt-F2) and the appfinder. See: http://wiki.xfce.org/design/appfinder
