you should be able to see a "shut down" in System menu .... if not you can add a button by rt. clicking on the top bar and adding to panel .
Does it look like this bug?

To confirm, I have ad this happen too. I also have to "sudo shutdown now"
- "Make me a coffee..."
- "No"
- "sudo make me a coffee"
- "OK"
I have this problem as well, though I was not aware of the shutdown now commands. I'd either set it to shut down in a minute, or simply press the power button on my tower, which brings up a menu asking whether you want to shut down, restart, etc.
