Searching for a solution on this thread, I found good news regarding "Bug" #345002:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...x/+bug/345002/
with the following recommendation:

Pete Graner: The module is no longer complied in the kernel. You can get it now by enabling the -proposed repo and updating the kernel, or you can wait until it hits the -updates repo.

The above "bug" fixed by restoring the
usbserial to be a
module again!
This makes us happy as we can (now and in the future) adapt it to use newer or very old modems!
Go to: System > Administration > Software Sources > Update > tick Pre-released updates
then close, reload or go directly to System > Administration > Update Manager and do the update.
Of course there is always a possibility something will not work fine (as it is pre-released) but I think in our case is more important to try Connecting via the 3G modem. Also I must note that we are not sure after above that your modem will be recognised but this will be the newer kernel version, so we have to try. Our standard kernel (previous version) is always there and we can choose it by pressing ESC at GRUB (boot time).
The updated kernel is
2.6.28-12-generic while the standard 9.04 is
2.6.28-11-generic
I do not know if using the
UNR version the above are the same. I am using 9.04 (not UNR) in my EeePC 1000H.
I tried all above and I usbserial my old ZTE MF636 modem. Worked!
For your case you are going to: update kernel, reboot, open a terminal window and:
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x05c6 product=0x9211
After above,
ls /dev/ttyU* /dev/ttyA* and hope we have some ttys.

George
