How do i repair or remove a faulty repository ?

Whenever i use update manager or software sources i get the following error.

Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I have clicked aruond in the two apps, but can't figure out how to repair or remove this.

    Any suggestions ?

    TIA Humpeligimp

select System-->Administration-->software sources-->Download From Main Server.

    select System-->Administration-->Update manager

This should fix the missing file, if not try different servers in the list.

Re: How do i repair or remove a faulty repository ?

Well. when the error first acurred it was set to the server for Denmark, and resulted in this error

Failed to fetch http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...trepid/Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead
    .

Then i changed it to main server resulting in the error described in the original post. Furthermore update manager launched itself five times just to tell me that there was no new updates, and that i have last checked three days ago.

Now i tried to chage it back to main: still error and update manager launches.

Then i changed it to UK server: error again.

There's probably been a coding mistake when the meta-package was made up. Hence the error message. It's probably being worked on at the moment, but it'll take time for a repaired metapackage to be uploaded to all the mirrors.

Give it a few hours, then hit the check button in update manager and see if it works OK.

Re: How do i repair or remove a faulty repository ?

I've just done an update in Intrepid using the GB mirror and everything works fine.

Two threads from this forum with same problem. In both cases due to bad lines in the sources.list file.

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=688255

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=965625

Post the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file. Let's see if there's a problem there.

Please confirm that you are using Intrepid, which is what the error message suggests, and did you do an upgrade from Hardy, or was this an Intrepid install?

I am using intrepid and i did a fresh install, not an upgrade.

The problem occurred after i had added some new repositories.

    Here's my sources.list

Quite a lot. Could it be this line (no. 3 from bottom):

    ?

Is it enough just to delete the line?

Yes, I think that is the problem line. It looks like two incomplete lines stitched together. Even if you put a carriage return in halfway through, both lines would still be incomplete. Have a look at the other lines. They should all end 'intrepid something'. Rather than delete the line, comment it out with a hash (#) at the beginning of the line. Then see if everything works OK.

    Hello!
I have the same problem, is there any problem with my sources.list. If so how do I save the file after deleting the line.
