Just adding my thanks for the work you guys are doing. Totally appreciated. Intrepid remains usable.

I am fortunate in that I run Ubuntu with KDM, not Kubuntu, so my upgrade from KDE 4.1 to KDE 3.5 was painless.

    You guys deserve medals.

    Regards
    Miguel

    Hi!

Great work, this guide, thanx a lot !

Maybe someone will be interest my way:
I dont like to install Hardy, and dont like to install Gnome...
    So, :
1.) I have downloaded Kubuntu 8.10 ALTERNATE CD.
2.) Boot from this LiveCD and right after language selection, press F4 and select "Install Command-line system only".
3.) Setup other things and install system.
4.) After install, log in and add madscientist159's repository in sources.list.
    5.) sudo apt-get update.
    6.) sudo apt-get install kde3.

Now you have pure Intrepid KDE3.

Note: Some apps/packages are missing in compare to my older Hardy instalation: Adept, Dolpfin, Krusader, Firefox..., Usplash, QtCuve...etc. Install manually.
Note2: Sorry for my very bad English...

Please, be aware that some packages you mentioned above are not from KDE, like firefox or usplash, so it is correct that they don't exist
That's why I suggest to install ubuntu (Gnome) by side as described on post #1

I dont think madscientist has added Krusader to the repo yet.

Usplash should be installed regardless of KDE3.

And yes, Kubuntu does not ship with firefox, it comes with Konqueror.

I have indeed uploaded Krusader--in fact, the only package that I still need to work on is kubuntu-desktop and the nokde4 package.

    For those getting 404 errors:
I am extremely angry at Servage right now. I logged in this morning only to find out that the entire repository was deleted!!! I will change the DNS to point at my low bandwidth in-house server for now, but with the traffic I am getting (>8Gb a day) I have no idea how well that will work.

Can anyone recommend a better (i.e. more reliable) inexpensive hosting service?

    What about ppa?
    https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA
Somehow can be, if not official, at least connected with ubuntu.

OK, DNS is switched. The repository is now back online.

Yeah, there is a little problem there. From https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA:
An APT repository of up to 1 gigabyte for free software
Trouble is, the repo is 1.5Gb in size and growing.
    Also
build and publish binary Ubuntu packages for multiple architectures simply by uploading an Ubuntu source package to Launchpad.
I've had to do so much fiddling with the build environment that I doubt this will work. I want a place to upload the binaries (and source) that I have already built, tested, in some cases modified, and verified.

Re: HowTo install KDE 3 into Intrepid (repost)

I upgraded from Hardy to intrepid and then decided to try out kde4. My machine is crashing. In case it is kde, as I am not using it, I would like to remove kde completely and still be left with a working Ubuntu. Is that possible?
