I upgraded to 13.10, and it still didn't fix the issue. Please, guys, I need help!
I appreciate the effort, nonetheless. :)
Yeah, I know that I have Ubuntu selected from the session manager, as opposed to Cairo (Which is now uninstalled). I have also enabled the Unity plugin in Compiz.
Thanks for the idea, but I'm still getting the error when I try and log in after choosing "Ubuntu" from the session manager. I was able to remove all the leftover Cairo packages by running...
I recently installed some updates on the Ubuntu install on my Toshiba X775-3DV78 laptop, but now, whenever I log into the machine, Unity refuses to load. My desktop displays, and I am able to open...
After doing a minor update and restarting my Ubuntu 13.04 installation, I ran into a new error. Whenever I try and load my desktop after logging in, Unity simply doesn't load. Everything else seems...
I'm using Windows 8; there's no way i know of to shut it down WITHOUT hibernating.
I have noticed that in the past few versions of Ubuntu, I have been unable to access my Windows partitions due to a mounting error. Usually, I was able to access one and not the other, but now I...
In response to your questions...
Yes, I am able to boot to a normal desktop using just the 12.10 LiveDVD that I used to install Ubuntu. It was only until after the update that this problem...
Bump again.
Bump.
I finally did a fresh install and ran an update afterward, and I have the same problem before I even installed an Nvidia driver. I think this may be a much worse problem than we anticipated.

Yes, I did try reinstalling nvidia-304 since the update, but it didn't fix the error.
Nothing at all?
Any ideas?
Well, following the latest update, I'm back to the same problem again, and Nvidia-304 isn't helping.
Hooray! It's fixed; as per gabrielalt's example, all I needed to do was install nvidia-304. Thanks for the suggestion! :D
Bump.
Still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
So, I should remove linux-source and then install linux-source-3.5.0 and nvidia-313?
