sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
You also might need to edit your xorg.conf file a bit, but lets see what happens ...

As a LAST resort, boot into the recovery mode and choose the last option, fix xserve. Know that you will have to re-install any proprietary drivers when you do this ....

The easiest solution is to simply reset your router and use WPA2. Be sure to use a strong pswd and you should be good to go...
I use a custom google specifically for ubuntu ...

After booting this morning I found that I am stuck in 800x600 resolution. I am running 8.04. I have tried using the recovery mode and fixing the xconfig file (last option) I have tried uninstalling...
