  1. [ubuntu] Re: Proprietary drivers are not proposed since Ubuntu 14.04 64 bits installation

    On the nVidia web-site.

Actually xorg edgers dropped 337 from their PPA, as I found out when I thought 340 had broken my system (which it hadn't).

In terms of installing the driver, you need...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Proprietary drivers are not proposed since Ubuntu 14.04 64 bits installation

Looks like the GT740 wasn't supported until nvidia-337, and Ubuntu 14.04 only has nvidia-331. Perhaps this is why it didn't offer any additional driver.
  3. [SOLVED] Re: Low resolution after updating xubuntu packages

    Fixed it.

I used a spare partition on the disc to install Xubuntu afresh, which initially gave me a 1600x1200 desktop. I then went and changed to the nvidia-340 drivers and got a full 2560x1440. ...
  4. [SOLVED] Re: Low resolution after updating xubuntu packages

I haven't had any luck at all with this.

Looking on the nvidia web-site, I can see that the driver offered by Ubuntu 14.04 (nvidia-331) doesn't support the GeForce GTX 750Ti.

    So I've tried both...
  5. [SOLVED] Re: Low resolution after updating to nvidia-340

I was on 14.04 already and simply updated the packages that I was notified about. It wasn't an upgrade from any previous Ubuntu version. I was using the xorg-edgers nvidia-337 because the...

  7. [SOLVED] Re: Low resolution after updating to nvidia-340

I don't insist on anything. Perhaps it wasn't clear when I wrote "The standard drivers in Xubuntu won't work (beyond 800x600) either.", so to clarify: I have now purged the xorg-edgers PPA and...
  8. [SOLVED] Low resolution after updating xubuntu packages

I recently performed an upgrade of all packages, amongst which appears to have been an upgrade from nvidia-337 to nvidia-340 (both from the xorg-edgers PPA). Prior to the upgrade I was able to run...
  9. [xubuntu] Window Button doesn't minimise unless window has focus

I'm sure this is new behaviour but on Xubuntu 14.04, if I click on a Window Button (i.e. the icon & text within the top panel that represents the program), then the program's window will only...

[lubuntu] Re: Pentium 4, Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420

I can certainly try to source another card.
I wanted to stick with one of the buntus as it's something I'm familiar with and I'm going to end up having to support this PC. Still, I'll take a look at...

[lubuntu] Re: How low (spec) can you go?

OK, I've got hold of the proper specs for the PC. It's actually got a Pentium 4 1.80GHz, and the Gfx Card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 with 64MB

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'll have a...

[lubuntu] Re: How low (spec) can you go?

Yeah, I'll have to ask about the Gfx card. I think the CPU is a 2.66GHz Pentium 4. No wifi card.

Thanks for that, I thought you were referring to the version released in the week, but see that's a different one.

  19. Re: Linux Mint & Ubuntu install fine but will not boot after install.

It *could* be an BIOS/MBR/EFI boot issue. On my system, I've got it setup for EFI mode, and if I choose to boot in BIOS/MBR/legacy mode (whatever your system may call it), then I just get a flashing...

Are you running a 64-bit system? If so, then that file is going to be in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkcs11 instead and you'll need to check if Teamviewer supports 64-bit systems. You may need to...

  25. [ubuntu] Re: Giving my user permissions to write files in directory

There are many ways to achieve what you want. For example, you could:
    a) Change the permissions and group of /var/www to allow your user to add files. I don't recommend this though.
    b) Change the...
