[ubuntu] Re: External Hard Drive Read Only

    Thanks Michael! :)

I found a workaround by hooking it up to a Windows 7 machine and running a free program I found called 'HFS Explorer'. From there, I can export the files onto a NTFS drive so...

[ubuntu] Re: External Hard Drive Read Only

The drive was initiated on a Mac, so the file system is HFS.

[ubuntu] External Hard Drive Read Only

I have a HD hooked up via USB and it mounts fine and I can view the root directory, but when I try to go into subdirectories, it says I don't have permission.

I tried doing 'chown -R username...

[ubuntu] Re: ugrade to 8.10 from 8.04

I have no idea why you would want to stay with 8.04 or 8.10. Personally, a lot of trouble issues on my laptop were resolved by upgrading to 9.04. From there, an upgrade to 9.10 was easy and...

Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

    Excellent! Thanks once again, psusi!

I chose FAT32 because I was told by a Linux veteran that nix still has issues with NTFS, particularly if the partition is shared by both linux and Windows...

Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

The commands are the same. Though, subsequent posts have certainly refined it a bit. I'm using 9.10 and it created the file fine for me. My next step is to test the opposite process, but I'm a bit...

Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

It's a FAT32 partition that I use for storage. I also back up files from XP there, so it makes it easier to backup everything from there to an external drive. As long as the tar doesn't include that...

Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

    Thanks! :)

    Ok, so I have:

    tar --one-file-system -cvpzf /media/share_/UbuntuBackup`date +%F`.tgz --exclude=/lost+found --exclude=/media --exclude=/mnt /

Look good? Any other suggestions or...

Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

    Thanks for the tutorial! :)

    One question...

I'd like to find a way to make this process easy, so I made a script that copies the backup file to another partition called share.

    tar cvpzf...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: STAC9205 on Gateway Laptop - No Sound Out of Headphone Jack

Thanks for that, it worked perfectly on my T-1620!
  11. Re: Installing Microsoft Office 2007 in Ubuntu 8.04/8.10/9.04 using Wine 1.1.12 to 16

FWIW, this did not work for me in Jaunty using wine 1.1.29. Using 1.1.24 did the trick though.

    Thanks for the tutorial! :)

Ok, I tried ndiswrapper again and then entered the commands you listed and it will not connect to my router with WEP. Though, without encryption, it seems to work good so far. I haven't tried WPA...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: RTL8187 native module for Realtek is working, but...

Ok, I definitely want to try this, but I should point out something first. I'm able to get online currently because I'm using a Hawking wireless dongle (ralink chip). I'll have to unplug it (and...

Thanks, but I've tried that multiple times. Last time I tried it, it worked, but it is extremely slow and most pages time out before loading. A page like this would take it around 3-4 minutes to...

Good to know. How do you switch it to b mode?

I'm having the same exact problem. Same kernel. Same device.

I for one would certainly appreciate instructions on how to compile the kernel. :)

  19. [all variants] Re: HOWTO: Get RTL8187B (ID: 8197) Working. Step by Step

Ok, so I found another suggestion on a Suse board about using wireless-compat package. I didn't see this in my repositories, so I didn't feel comfortable installing it. I'm a noob and trying to...

Preface: I'm a complete Linux noobie.

After spending about 12 hours over the last few days trying to get this to work, I'm a bit bummed out. :(

I've looked at every thread here regarding this...

    [ubuntu] Installing emusicj
