    I have adblockplus and firebug installed in FF.

    I appreciate your response. :)
    But I think the problem is something with the server. Server machine's firefox is as fresh as Starbucks coffee, so it has the default factory settings....

    Seems to be like some hardware issue. You may try checking the connections from CPU to monitor.

    You may try booting from the ubuntu live cd. If the display is still that way.
    The problem might be with the hardware..

    I had a similar problem with a CRT monitor long back.
    There will be a some remove magnetic field button in the monitor menu (buttons on the monitor). I used that and the display was back to normal. ...

    I deleted all the files from /var/lib/apt/lists
    Then apt-get update
    It will say some folder is missing in /var/lib/apt/lists.
    Create that folder & then again apt-get update

    It will be solved....

    By the way, I did a fresh install, did not upgrade.
    I think all this should work fine for upgrade too. :)
