You need to get firmware and put it in /lib/firmware
Also, take a look at:

If we are still talking about the volar X, it works out of the box with 9.04 and 9.10. Only thing you might have to do is download the latest firmware and place it in /lib/firmware, that's all there...
Err, ok, 9.04 ;)
But no way to do it?
I would like to use the iso I downloaded as a basis for upgrading my server without the CD. Is there a way to slip the packages from the CD to the cache directory so that the upgrade needs less files...
