No problems mate. To be honest, I don't quite remember what fix I used to solve it back than as it was quite a while back. I don't use cairo-docks option to launch on startup, I insure it starts up...
I once had a similar issue but found out I was running two instances of cairo-dock. Could this be the case with you?
I believe I'm set at the kernel level, but what do you mean by the graphic stack, any examples?

If you restart your computer and log back in, is everything still frozen? Sometimes a restart will get you back into a working system and you can troubleshoot from there.

if you have lazy positioning enabled, try disabling it by clicking on move window and unchecking lazy positioning.
Just a quick update, the network manager problem was solved by rebooting my computer. Steps to change your username:
1. From desktop, CTRL+ALT+F1
2. log in as root
3. Use the who command to see...
