Have you gone to a TTY (CTRL+ALT+F1), logged in and run 'aslamixer' ? There are more fine-grained volume controls for mic, etc. there..usually that's the fix for me.
Same here - creating type=link .desktop files opens in gedit rather than Firefox. VERY frustrating! Using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS...

Well after about 2 days of searching around, I found that...
To *safely* work around this issue, please do the following:
sudo polkit-action --set-defaults-any org.freedesktop.systemtoolsbackends.set auth_admin
This will require authentication of a...

Hmm, according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/339891 (looks like the master bug for this issue), if WPA *is* the issue (did you try temporarily turning WPA off?), you can...
Hmm. As a troubleshooting step, why not turn on SSID broadcast temporarily.. what kind of encryption are you using? (not that it should matter, Jaunty can pretty much do it all)
Since it can see...
Did you try clicking on the wireless/network manager panel applet and selecting "Connect to hidden wireless network" and filling out the appropriate fields? Do you have MAC filtering turned on in...
This is a bug in system-config-printer for Ubuntu. Please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config-printer/+bug/302158 for details.
I'd also like to know about this functionality - its one of the few things I've found you *can't* configure in LTSP (that I've found, anyway).

Wow, thank you!! Worked like a charm in Ubuntu 8.04.1 w/Firefox-2 installed.

Nice. I definitely like the previous Permissions tab (rwx style). IMHO all the new one does is (badly) hide the concepts behind rwx, which if you take 5 minutes to learn about it, the knowledge is...
I'm not sure where the settings are, but with most/all things Linux, GUI tools are merely front-ends for back-end configuration files. Not sure if the the XDMCP stuff is stored in GCONF or in...
I would recommend you follow my instructions - not sure if you can "start over" but I have set up many installs exactly like I have in my instructions and it works great (you don't even have to...
Not really what I was looking for...I'm talking about getting Windows Shockwave plugin working under wine/LINUX version of Firefox... The Crossover plugins work great, but the licensing fees...well,...
I've posted a quick alternative to using xinetd in this HOWTO. I was running into the problem of xinetd interfering with the default inetd and therefore LTSP functionality, so I coded Xvnc to launch...
I found this thread searching for the same type of thing - I run a fairly elaborate setup - Ubuntu Server (AMD64) as an LTSP server for 35 student lab computers (i386 chroot).
In researching the...
Well, I tried following this HOWTO on one of my LTSP servers.
There seems to be a conflict with xinetd and inetd - once you install xinetd, inetd is disabled, effectively shutting down all of the...
Can you elaborate on how LTSP "conflicted with something and did some very dodgy things"? I'm about to deploy a fairly large number of VNC services using this HOWTO - all of them happen to be LTSP...

Duh...I thought I had multiverse installed...but I didn't. D'oh!

Thanks for this howto!! This is great. I wish I knew that Feisty alternate-install (x86-64) CD didn't have an installer option for software RAID before I nuked my newly installed LTSP server :( Oh...
