Thanks for the information. I'll keep that in mind next time. :)
I didn't know where I could find relevant log files, I asked which log files would be relevant in the OP as well.
Fedora had their newest release today, Fedora 17.
I gave it a spin with the LiveCD. Suspend worked OotB and honestly that's a really important feature for me. That and battery life, which appears...
Doesn't work for me. I have a 6.2 GB swap with an encrypted home directory. Suspend will work once, but then it will stop working again.
Bump. Tried reinstalling. Fresh install the laptop wouldn't shutdown or suspend. Normal.
Installing any one of 3 ehci fixing scripts will let the laptop suspend once, but trying to do it again it...
Bump. I really need help with this.
The laptop doesn't want to shutdown/reboot/suspend at all now.
Hello,
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 x64 with the latest updates on my ASUS K53E.
After a vanilla install of any ubuntu version, the K53E will not suspend properly. A script from here...
Yeahhhh, that's what I was thinking.
Looks like I'll start hunting down what each change is. I wish it showed me the command instead of "Good/bad"

Hello,
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 x64 on my ASUS notebook. I've installed PowerTOP to maximize my battery life with the OS, and it works great!
However, some of the changes PowerTOP makes don't...
It turned out my card was mislabeled, it's not gigabit.
I solved this by hosting SSH on the laptop, and connecting the Windows 7 desktop with a socksv5 tunnel.
Not the solution I originally intended, but I guess there's several ways to solve a problem....
Hello,
For hours I've been attempting to share my laptop's wireless internet connection to my desktop connected through ethernet.
I've tried several methods to no avail.
KDE's NetworkManager...

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 on my ASUS k53e,
I have a laptop and a samsung LCD which connects via a VGA cable. I was able to get a gnome panel on the LCD without much issue.

Fixed it. For some reason the install script was placing the compiled library files in /usr/local/lib, instead of /usr/lib.
Moving the files manually worked.
The commands I used (AFTER RUNNING...

There's one solution! KDE isn't connected to gnome in any way shape or form, so it should work. You basically have yourself a kubuntu install now.
For future readers of this thread, I do believe...
Derp. Apparently I can't read!
But yes, a model number would help. Some laptops have odd quirks.
"Lubunut"
I googled that before I realized you simply misspelled "Lubuntu" :(
What is the model/manufacturer of the laptop?
Yeah, GNOME3 is half baked at best at the moment. There's loads of problems. IIRC The most recent release of Fedora uses GNOME3, and I could never get that to work properly without everything...
I'm happy with how simple dropbox is to use and the multi-platform. However they;ve had a few security slip-ups AFAIK, wasn't happy about that.
It's a love/hate relationship.
I'm currently doing the same thing, the solution in realzippy's post works for me. Found it on a blog though. :P
I'm currently trying to upgrade mesa to 7.11 (Sandybridge improvements) here:
