    Just checked from one of my 12.04 virtual box installations and that

    sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
    works also...

    Did you do that

    sudo yum install gnome shell
    and after that logoff and from login screen click icon after your username and select gnome classic
    After that you have gnome and you can start...

    Same here, but this is very simple 2 step thing to do to get old style back:

    1. run "sudo apt-get install gnome-shell"
    2. logoff and select gnome classic before logon (only need to do once)

    5 or more disks in raid5 for file share (it's fast enough for file share)

    I have removed totally the panel from top of desktop and put all necessary stuff in bottom panel. That way i can get bigger work area for widescreen laptop display.
