Just put "sudo" before the command (or gksudo for graphical apps).
For example, you could edit the file with "sudo nano" or "gksudo gedit".
A cool way of seeing how much space you have and what is occupying it is to install "filelight" and use it to view things graphically.
The problem with that is that "ex" is already a command (a synonym for "vim" by default).
It would be best to choose another name for the function.
Hmm, strange.
I successfully added my Google Talk account. However, it does now show up as XMPP rather than "Google Talk" or "Gtalk". I left the default port.
As far as I know, that is not possible without major hacking. Two sound cards might be required.
Have you heard of someone achieving that?
It seems to be complaining that "/etc/samba/smb.conf" does not exist. It is expecting it to be there, and is choking on that. Silly, I know.
Here is a hack that might work.
Go to the terminal...
I have no experience of Brasero myself, so I can only suggest that you try out K3B, available in the repositories.
I think that the problem is that you have set up SCIM to work with Gtk apps (such as those that come with GNOME) only, but Opera is a Qt app (such as those that come with KDE).
Go back to the...
Thanks, that's the sort of info I was after.
So, you only have one actual hard drive as such, but it is divided into two partitions.
Well, as far as we can see from those commands, you do have...
Sorry on behalf of Ubuntu! Error messages can be unhelpful at times. They assume you are experienced.
What it means is that you ought to enter that command at a terminal. You can find the...
99.9%? That must be infuriating! I hope we can solve your problem.
By the way, an admin should probably move this to the Wubi forum, where people have more specialised knowledge.
Don't worry about being a newbie. We all were once.
Yes, that's the prompt. Great! If you see that, you can enter commands.
I gave the log-in details because in certain circumstances people...
Ah, it's as I expected. The EeePC runs on Xandros by default, and people giving advice for it assume that you are running Xandros. If you have Ubuntu and follow the same advice, it may cause...
And this is with a range of different files, right?
You might just have to report it as a bug on launchpad.
That's not so much a description of a Linux troll, but a Windows troll, in a certain sense.
But a great analysis of the problem of switching from one OS to another.
What? Eh? What? That makes no sense.
OK, I'm going to have to put away the feather of subtle hints and pull out the slapping mackerel of unsubtle hints. The great cudgel of blunt obviousness...
I don't get how you can be using a variety of graphical applications, but not a simple one like a terminal. Even if gnome-terminal is not properly installed, you can always get to the real TTY...
If I continued to allow us to go back and forth repeating that, how long would it take you to get the hint that there is something else in the rules to which I am alerting you?
It's the same as Wikipedia, or any other forum or online organisation of the type. It's a club that you enter by a current members taking a shine to you. A cursory examination shows that there are...
Yeah, but the command line is easiest.
Let's say you want to back up everything in /home/shakujou to /media/external.
Do this:
tar -vcf /media/external/shakujou-backup.tar /home/shakujou/...
Good point! although it does only apply to configuration files and suchlike. He doesn't need to worry so much about his movies and suchlike. They can all just be given the right permissions en...
Thanks for that opinion, which is no doubt of great merit, despite its lack of relevance to what I said.
Well, I received a link to the relevant section (and was even able to fire back a question about it), so plz have a guess.
I'm still waiting for an answer from you: did you read all of it?
OK. The drive is mounted as root, so you have to be root to transfer files to it.
Also make sure that you mount it as "ntfs-3g" and not just "ntfs".
So, use "sudo mv" instead of just "mv". Or...
