i went ahead and uninstalled pulse audio too but still no sound.. bohoo :(..
even after removing pulse my audion does not seem to work. Any help will be appreciated..

i have finally upgraded to 1gig ram and now have 1.25 gig ram. All my installation problems disappeared but the problem with sound still persists. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Facing a similar problem myself. I just did a clean install too of 8.10 but for some reason there is no sound on my creative speakers. I used soundmax drivers for my windows but nothing on UBUNTU..
