Hey people. Let me give a small basic background of what I currently have.
I have a personal home server that I use as a central place where I have NFS exporting /home to the client computers so...
Warning.
If you go with the NIS version.
There is an incorrect step in setting up the server that screws everything up.
Wait I figured out the problem
There is one mistake in the HOW TO documentation from Ubuntu.
Has anyone figured out a answer to this problem?
There is only one thing wrong in the HOW TO
when it talks about the
/etc/defaults/nis
NISSERVER=master
NISCLIENT=false
That setting is wrong
On your server make sure that in /etc/defaults/nis
the setting is set as
NISSERVER=true
NISCLIENT=false
and not
NISSERVER=master
NISCLIENT=false
I know that this is slightly post but there are some wrong instructions in some HowTo areas
in /etc/defaults/nis
make sure that it is
NISSERVER=true
NISCLIENT=false
not (some instructions...
If you look in your NIS settings where you set NISSERVER and NISCLIENT
Some instructions tell to set the NISMASTER as master when it should be true instead.
NISSERVER=true
NISCLIENT=false
...
Well I did try that and I found no difference, other then the computer started having troubles mounting the nfs shares.
amen!
Will this actually work?
Nfs?
God I can't even get NIS working at all on my computers.
Okay I got NIS working
But on the client computers, I think I have a small problem where the NIS tries to bind before the network is up properly.
Hi.
I'm slightly new to ubuntu networking and server now.
I have gotten the use of nfs working on my network with sharing the /home folder and its great.
But only problem now is that I cannot...
Dang....
Thats just great...
Maybe Using Fedora as the server might fix the problem?
Thanks I'll try that!
Well I tried several.
Basically what I could find on the Google Search.
Yeah I did all of them that you said.
But I still have the problem.
I was thinking that maybe the Firewall?
Because...
Does anyone know how to set up NIS properly?
All the information I find these days don't work properly.
(The whole centralized user Database.)
For some reason the client computers can't...
Okay so heres my problem
I have two cards in my system
GeForce 9600 GSO PCI-E
GeForce FX 5200 PCI
With those two cards I triple monitor just fine.
My problem is when I first start up the...
