    My SSID is just a 6 letter lower case word (edimax). So I don't think that is the problem?

    Thanks for the reply Gord, I gathered that most users do not have this problem. I don't know why I do... I did have a lot of trouble getting Ubunto to install the correct drivers for my wireless card...
