I still have not figured out the difference between 1.10.1 and 1.8.15. That is why I am/was happy with 1.8.15. I will file a bug report anyway.
@PaulW2U: Thanks! I was only watching the 13.04 ppa...
@Temüjin: A bug report seems to be superfluous given Paul's response.
Sorry for the bump... Is there any chance that the repos will be updated at least for 13.10? The recent version 1.10.1 contains quite a bunch of fixes.
Well, it could be that this specific Digitus device is broken. My intention was to rule this out (as it seems to work "for everybody else").
@CyberAngel: Stupid question, but maybe it is a good idea to rule out a hardware problem first: does the device work on another laptop and/or under Windows? If this is the case, I would suggest to...
I tried to find information on using tracker to index and search my emails on thunderbird. The only things I could find seem to be outdated - I am running 13.04. Is there any uptodate information on...
I am using Liferea on 13.4 together with tiny tiny rss (latest version). Liferea does not seem to update the feeds after the first connection (in the ttrss interface I can see new articles). I tried...
I just confirmed that driver version 1.4.0 works flawlessly under 13.04.
The ASIX Website is up again. Alternatively I uploaded the driver over here.
Would be great if you could keep us informed! Disconnect time analysis: good job! :D
Beyond the obvious (the usb device disconnects) I cannot see what the reason for this behavior could be (the logs don't say it). Maybe it is best to get in contact with the developer(s) of the driver...
@longint: I thought about packaging the driver and using dkms in the past, but could not find time to do it. It looks like that the driver is on its way to hit mainland. So the problem will go away...
Ok. Could you try to describe the OS running on the NAS in a bit more detail (ie. answer my other questions from above)?
Sorry for second guessing, but why do you want to use an ethernet usb adapter on a device with a built gigabit ethernet?
Sorry for my ignorance, but could you answer the following questions first:
Does the Synology DS209 NAS run linux?
If yes, which "distribution" if any?
Do you have root access?
The driver has been updated to v1.3.0: http://www.asix.com.tw/FrootAttach/driver/AX88179_178A_LINUX_DRIVER_v1.3.0_SOURCE.tar.bz2.
I think the main argument for not hardcoding the whitelist is the following: You cannot remove the functionality anyways due to Java and Wine not willing/able to adjust to the new indicator-system....
Strange, the driver compiled for me even without changing the makefile. You are right, that kernel headers have to be installed.
I did it myself:
Fetch current indicator code:
bzr branch lp:ubuntu/evolution-indicatorBuild package (install build dependencies first):
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -bThen I installed the...
Final step: driver from hardware manufacturer compiles and works unter 12.10:
http://www.asix.com.tw/FrootAttach/driver/AX88179_178A_LINUX_DRIVER_v1.2.0_SOURCE.tar.bz2
I decided to just buy the device. It does not seem to work out of the box. This is the output of lsusb: http://pastebin.com/weWZJ6ZG
It seems to be a re-branded version of this device: ASIX...
Does anybody know, whether this device is supported under linux/ubuntu? I could not find an answer via google, etc.
Manufacturer product website
Let me add one thing: If someone brings evolution indicator support back (to quantal) quickly, I am willing to donate 100€ (the developer might then choose to whom to give the money: herself/himself,...
