HAve you got the Sandybridge problem? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/+source/linux/+bug/1140716
I'm having a similar issue on a friend's PC and annoyed that a perfect system has been...
Thanks ibj, but I think CLI is the only route I can take on the affected machine.
I know how to sudo apt-get install linux-source-3.2.0.38 kernel-package libncurses5-dev fakeroot etc, but I'm more...
Am suffering from the Sandybridge regression bug (click here) leading to inoperable GUI as Unity/Gnome classic freeze etc:
So don't know how long the critical status will last (3.2.0-39), so in...
Def. NOT.
I have an HP Laserjet P1005 that, according to HPLIP, comes "recommended" and has "FULL" funtionality.
Well it doesn't have any of the above. I've submitted bugs reports, always...
Printing is still the weakest link with Ubuntu IMHO as the lack of responses show on this thread.
Most will tell you to go by the compatibility lists and subsequent purchases will then work...
My HP Laserjet P1005 printer is listed in 'mostly' and it's right, it MOSTLY NEVER WORKS. It always works perfectly and flawlessly in Windows however.
So you get recommended to use HPLIP rather...
Solved the first issue by using updated Samsung wireless drivers. Now just the oscillating brightness
I'm having the same problem with my Realtek Semiconductor 192SE Wireless LAN Controller [10ec:8192]. WEP seems fine though.
I'm also suffering from an oscillating brightness control. Just keeps...
Used a W7 machine in the end.
Yes I'm beginning to agree, but I did buy knowing that I could always fall back on a friend's W7 box.
Harmony 300.
Seemed to work well using congruity until:

Everything works on my mother's eMachines 350 except the microphone. Will edit in when I do a hardware check
Certainly a comprehensive application successfully used on my desktops. Just got to learn how to get the best conversion for reliable netbook use, as standard VOBs seem to cause exceptions in Totem....
Thanks Shhnap, will give it a try and get back
I could really do with a solution. Tried a few months back when a Windows 7 netbook, but could never get it working. Am now UNR 10.10 (which is great).
I've given up with printing on Ubuntu. I have a Canon Pixma. The colours have always been muddy and dark, and more often than not, it just doesn't print/print properly.
So, I've moved away from...
Agr! This is grim. I thought I'd upgrade to an LTS to last me until the next LTS (and computer upgrade) thinking that this might be as reliable as Dapper and save me worrying about upgrading again...
Support for printing. Woeful
Tried your solution Wacky and nada.
No test page, nothing. Just an error on printing. I'll look into Canon specific drivers but I think I've had enough. Ubuntu just doesn't do printing very well....
Thanks Wacky. Had an important document to print off this morning and NOTHING. So it's back to the Windows laptop for document converting and then printing ...... AGAIN.
I don't think I've ever...
I did an upgrade and it's very much the same. Not to mention I can't print AGAIN .... not that printing was ever any good in Ubuntu with the dark rendering, inconsistent formats and so on.
But...
Thanks again Irritant, but I still don't know why the old failing version is still in the repositories. I'll give it a go, but if I have to search through reams of material to get to the point then...
Thanks I'll take a look - although looking at the available packages I'm a bit at a loss to understand what I would need. Is there any output I could drop by you to assess this?
And months on it's still farcical.
So I'm trying to build this myself to no avail. Keep getting build errors. The latest falls over almost immediately with:
