Have you tried unplug extension for firefox? That gets most vids for me.
Check and see if reinstalling nautilus helps
For a clock and other random stuff like that you can install screenlets. In synaptic you should find it easily.
I would recommend Ubuntu, I would go with 7.10 but you could try 8.04 if you wanted to. Tons of options for bittorrent clients, bittornado, ktorrent, azereus. In linux you can install vlc player,...
I didn't think KDE4 was done yet. Isn't it still in deveolopement? Most people i've seen with it go back to kde3 until it's done.
Xubuntu can be made as good or bad as you want it to. I love it, xfce is great in my opinion.
Which media player are you using?
I'm sorry that you had to get started on 8.04, it's been causing some problems. I ended up reinstalling gutsy after upgrading to hardy. Still too many bugs.
I don't think it's a bad idea at all. I haven't even upgraded from gutsy yet because there just seems to be too many problems with hardy still. Whatever works for you man.
I also use ext3, it works.
From a lot of the posts I've been seeing it seems like the update messed up firefox pretty bad. A lot of people are complaining about freezes and crashes in the last day, so I'm assuming the update...

You can remove the window list from the awn dock, or you can remove it from your regular task bar so it's not on there twice.
FF3 is still in beta and it's been causing quite a few problems. I would use a different browser for the time being. I use swiftweasel.
Hope that's all it is! Should be under the sound settings.
I like xubuntu a lot, you could try that. It's pretty lightweight.
In screenlets where you start them up each time, under the activate button there should be another button to check right under that that starts automatically when you log in.
did you make sure your settings aren't set to have sound to off balance? so it's only using half the speakers?
This link helped me get it installed and running. Hope it helps you!

I can't see your screenshot, but have you tried restarting awn? Does it continue to occur if you log out and log back in? My awn bar has tweaked out a few times but restarting it or logging out and...
Have you tried using any other media players? Like rythymbox or amarok? anything you can find or have really.
I see, I'm not sure how to get it working in pidgin either.
