    [ubuntu] Re: Wobbly Windows

Yeah, don't remove them. They are also a great way to show what Linux is capable of doing.

(I usually use wobbly to get all kinds of "ooohh" and "aaahh" around :p).

Re: Something to look forward to in Q

Hey kansasnoob, we expect you to be aboard for Q and above!

My guesses for what Q will bring up:

    - LIN menus (is that their name?) in app's title bar

    - Faster start up

    - A better Plymouth...
  3. Re: Need some advice regarding Intel i5 expected perfomance on PP

    I have a sandy bridge i5 2500 desktop for a few months now, with win7 / ubuntu 11.10 oneiric.

Graphics are smooth under Unity 3D, the desktop is perfectly usable and window movement is smooth too....

Re: What is the point of hiding things?

Any screenshot please? I'm curious about this lack of window buttons...

EDIT: No need, sorry! Just saw it in the article in OMGUbuntu about the new UI changes brought in with UI freeze...

    Re: Themes

Surely there will be some GUI options coming in for changing dash looks (maybe in CCSM). Don't know when, hope rather soon.

All in all, things are coming together slowly because of several...

    Re: Themes

Thanks jbicha for your analysis and thoughts.

Yes, it's feature freeze so no time to refurbish gnome-tweak-tool to not bring Gnome Shell with it. Better for 12.04.

I would just include a point...

    Re: Themes

Hope so. It would be great if Gnome Shell devs do it, but I'm not very optimistic about that.

So more work for Unity devs.

    Re: Themes

Be vary that when changing theme under Unity, windows' borders don't get the new appearance until you log out and then login again. Maybe they change inmediately under Gnome Shell (haven't tried in...

Re: unity launcher looking more like a dock

Yeah, top panel transparency does not go well next to an opaque toolbar.

Anyway I'm just playing with these shiny things to make the launcher look better. Changing its background color alone...

Re: unity launcher looking more like a dock

I tried CCSM (CompizConfigSettingsManager) | Unity plugin for fiddling around with launcher's appearance. As sgage said, tab Experimental has some happy tweaks to experiment with.:)

    Here is a...

Oh, thanks sgage for the info. I'll install CCSM to see how the launcher looks with smaller icons.

Re: unity launcher looking more like a dock

Yeah, I too would fiddle and tweak a bit on looks if there were more options to it. They'll surely come when time permits (after all devs are very busy with Unity and the transition to gtk3 to focus...

Re: unity launcher looking more like a dock

@x-shaney-x: yeah, John Doe against Fittz's law :)

@VinDSL: hey, good looking desktop. The overall dark background and translucent top panel goes well with the launcher, making it look like if it...

Re: unity launcher looking more like a dock

Oh okey, seems Fittz's law and economy of space would resent.

Anyway it would just waste ~15 pixels around, not so much with wide screens.

But Fittz's law gets clearly injured, so I better...

unity launcher looking more like a dock

I was using oneiric alpha 3 last night from a live CD and realized that the launcher still looks somewhat odd to me.

It looks like a dock that occupies all screen height, and is glued to the left...

    Re: GRUB appearance improvement?

Hmm, didn't know BURG is unmaintained. Sorry for the suggestion.

Also found that another reason not to use BURG is that it seems to conflict with Plymouth.

So better stay with GRUB 2, though no...

    Re: GRUB appearance improvement?

Could it be possible that your school uses BURG instead of GRUB?

BURG is derived from GRUB 2 and allows for fancier backgrounds, icons instead of text and other graphical goodness.

    I haven't...

Re: Ubuntu to remove and blacklist Gnome-Shell

Hi autocrosser, we'll miss you around here.

Maybe you can come back next cycle (I hope Gnome Shell will be the main Ubuntu focus by then).

Meanwhile, the devs could consider using AWN or Docky...

Will Unity have some main menu like Gnome 2.x has now? Asking because I read somewhere it doesn't right now, and I would miss it badly.

Also, like Arla I would prefer some dock like AWN...
  24. Poll: Re: Have you clicked on the wrong thing since the window control switch?

I voted "Other" because I clicked wrongly not once, but 3 times (nothing serious I swear :-)).
