[SOLVED] Re: Lost ability to Logout or Shutdown

If i issue the 'gnome-session-quit' command, the logout dialog does come up and I am able to use it.

Logging out and back in did, in fact, fix the lagging problem. Thanks for that.

    I have...

[SOLVED] Re: Lost ability to Logout or Shutdown

Well, the command caused the top menu to blink, clear, and then come back. Nothing else changed. I installed Cairo Dock along with XFCE4, but that was many months ago and up until a few days ago, it...

[SOLVED] Re: Lost ability to Logout or Shutdown

That thread, although having the commands in them, isn't relevant to my problem. I already CAN logout and shutdown from XFCE4. It is Ubuntu (default session) that I can't do a thing with.

    I...

[SOLVED] Lost ability to Logout or Shutdown

Sometime over the last few days (my computer runs 24/7) I've lost the ability to use the drop-down menu items Logout and Shutdown. I used to use them all the time to do both, but now I can't. My...
  6. [SOLVED] Re: Scrolling "failed to execute" messages on 14.04LTS bootup

This thread is over 4 months old. You probably ought to start a thread of your own if you are still having these problems.

  7. [SOLVED] Re: Not possible to install/run Google Earth on 14.04?

Well, that's the strange part, then. I don't know how it got installed, but according to dpkg -L, lsb-core is installed now.

What's important is that GE runs now. I am hoping it isn't too...
  8. [SOLVED] Re: Not possible to install/run Google Earth on 14.04?

I have absolutely NO idea how it happened, but after the Software Installer crashed four times, and I ran apt-get install -f twice, I could start Google Eartch from the command line as "google-earth"...
  9. [SOLVED] Re: Not possible to install/run Google Earth on 14.04?

    BOOM. Install exploded messily:

    bill@bill-UBU:~/Downloads/Software$ sudo dpkg -i google-earth-stable_current_i386.deb
    Selecting previously unselected package google-earth-stable.

  10. [SOLVED] Re: Not possible to install/run Google Earth on 14.04?

It looks terribly complicated for something that should be fairly simple. Given the mess Google made of the Google maps "upgrade", I'm not surprised that they complete blew their GE upgrade also. ...
  11. [SOLVED] Not possible to install/run Google Earth on 14.04?

Using Ubuntu/Xubuntu 14.04 (with XFCE4.1 overlay) 64-bit. I have been researching everywhere to find out how to install and run Google Earth on Ubuntu/Xubuntu 14.04. There are quite a few "ways" to...

[xfce] Re: Thunar takes over 60 seconds to start up

The only 'live' CD I have is the plain-jane version of Ubuntu 14.04. Thunar appears when I run the xfce4 desktop, which, as far as I can tell, isn't on a live CD.

What I have done, and it seems...

[xfce] Re: Thunar takes over 60 seconds to start up

The 'strace' command, which I used to output to a local TXT file, did exactly the same as starting it from Cairo Dock or by the terminal command 'thunar'. I waited 30 seconds for a blank window to...

[xfce] Re: Thunar takes over 60 seconds to start up

@Morbius1: The 10 minutes was not a wait. What I said was that if I close Thunar completely and then wait around 10 minutes to try and start it again, I have the 60-second delay again. I suspect...

[SOLVED] Re: How does one reset Gnome Mahjongg scores?

Given the size of hard drives now (my 64-bit system has two 1Tb drives - one for Linux and one for Windows 7) searches can take literally hours and hours so your statement definitely holds true.

[xubuntu] Re: [known bug] sudo command problem

I don't know if this is tied in somehow, but I also get "Malformed file. Press any kay to continue..." on booting up. After ten seconds or so, this dissappears and boot starts up normally.

Your last command (sudo -H gedit ...) still produced the same exact verbiage.
