Thank you infinito and phosphoricx, it worked perfectly. I managed to download, compile and install the resulting package without a hitch and the background problem is fixed.
I have noticed that, too. I run Ubuntu on a notebook with C2D cpu and nvidia graphics card. The machine attempts to save power by downclocking both the CPU and the GPU when it's idle.
When compiz...
I think it has something to do with the wear levelling.
You can performs some ext4 tweaks to speed up your disk. Check this: http://blog.smartlogicsolutions.com/2009/06/04/mount-options-to-improve-ext4-file-system-performance/

The Computer Temperature Monitor Applet's background color stays constant and ignores current theme settings.
I have attached a picture which shows the Radiance theme with the applet on the top...
Just minimize and then maximize Firefox or Alt-tab to another window and back. No need to kill the application.
This happens to me every now and then, too. As odd as it may sound, I am able to fix this by rebooting my router.

I am using 9.10, which is probably the reason why I could find byobu in the repositories.
You could use plain "screen" instead, byobu is just an extension of that. Try searching for that....
If I understand this correctly, you want to SSH into your Ubuntu machine and then run Mediatomb/whatever... then break the connection without killing the program? You can use screen/byobu for that.

Does your computer have a "camera off" button? Most laptops and netbooks do have it. Just find it and press it to turn the camera back on.
I don't think IRC works that way.
Your users would have to stay connected to the IRC server to see all the chat (they don't really have to be at a single machine, they just have to leave the IRC...

Did you make a backup copy of the file before editing? If so, restore it, reboot and see if it works.
There is no feisty repository at http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/

This. I once had a drive like that. It was ntfs-formatted external drive and Ubuntu refused to mount it, saying that the drive contents was inconsistent. I had to connect the drive to a Windows...
Do you want to browse a website in a terminal? Use any of the text-based browsers such as links, elinks or my personal favourite w3m. (first install it by typing "sudo apt-get install w3m" or via the...
There's even cooler way, but it only works if the computer is not totally frozen. Try pressing the ctrl+alt+f1 and see if you can get to a terminal.
After the ctrl+alt+f1 and successful login,...
If you already have Sun Java installed, you can run System - Settings - Sun Java 6 Plugin Control Panel. There in the network settings you can change the proxy setting manually or to "auto-detect".
You don't. You cannot install the drivers in the virtualized Windows environment because the virtual NIC is different from your real NIC.
Virtual Box presents a virtual wired NIC (default option...
You do not need those drivers. The Virtual box is a virtual PC with a virtual NIC. The Windows installation doesn't see your real NIC.
Looks to me that this "שלנו" might be the problem.
Try renaming the folder or removing those characters and then run it again and see if it works.
I think that just because it's a slow netbook. You cannot really expect it to play fullscreen video smoothly, you'd need an ION equipped netbook for that.
Late reply, I know, but perhaps you just need to right-click the little USB icon at the bottom of the Virtualbox window (it looks like a USB connector and is right next to the network icon) and then...
