BTW if you just want to compile or patch Grub "legacy" but don't need the netboot feature you can compile it without the options: --enable-diskless --enable-eepro100

I don't understand why it doesn't at least support a text or xml config file... sure we can hack notify-osd's source code, but that means having to reapply the patches at every update.

Anyway, decent support for the discard infrastructure in libata is available in kernel 2.6.33. SSDs need it for the internal garbage collector (increases lifespan and performance).
