Go to System -> Administration -> Software Sources in the Ubuntu Software tab make sure every box is checked (except the cd-rom related ones), the same should be in the Other Software and Updates...
Open a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-alsa-`uname -r`
Logout or reboot...then go to System -> Preferences -> Sound and make sure the volume slider is not muted.
This means you're not in the audio group...so you don't have access to any sound device. Your name should appear after audio:x:29:pulse
In the terminal type:
fgrep -ie 'audio' /etc/group

From Synaptic...use the search box to find your package, right click on it and select "Mark for complete removal"
From the terminal: sudo apt-get remove --purge <insert_name_of_package_here>

Start by posting the laptop model, if you made sure the volume is turned up, and paste from the terminal the output of:

Well...I've been experimenting with no luck how to get rid of that logging. After a longer period of gaming my .xsession-errors file gets filled(there's a limit to how much errors get logged in there...
