From my experience, uNetbootin work great in Linux. Just plug in your drive, and open uNetbootin load the iso on there.

I would run a auto-remove in the terminal,(to remove the other files) then you can download a deb file from HERE.

I'd look at a WiFistation, its made by Ubiquiti. http://www.ubnt.com/wifistation
They are pretty much "plug-and-play" on Linux.
they also have other radios you could use for long-range...

Your upload/download speeds are different than your ping.
Your ping is how many milliseconds it takes for the data packet to hit a defined server. So your ping is not always going to be the same....
