Re: Simple New Dual Boot Idea?

Thanks everyone for contributing your thoughts.
I have not actually tried the idea yet but a physical selector switch must be the safest and simplest way to have multiple OS's on the same computer....

Re: Simple New Dual Boot Idea?

I just read that hot plugging capability is actually part of the SATA specification.
In any case, it wouldn't actually be hot plugged, one would simply switch to the wanted SSD drive before turning...

Re: Simple New Dual Boot Idea?

OK, maybe have the switch recessed so it doesn't get flicked by accident.
    (Are SSD sata drives hot-pluggable?)
The 2nd computer idea is a tad expensive, lol!

My new setup uses a 43" 4k TV screen...

    Simple New Dual Boot Idea?

I've been using Lubuntu for years but now need to have one machine dual booting with the intrusive spyware that is MS Windows 10.
Rather than doing it the software way I was thinking of just having...

    Re: Resolution problems

I "help" by recommending it to people but what I see now is endless changes being made that people don't want (Unity, for a major one and I gather they now want to dump firefox) instead of fixing...

    Re: **! Resolution !**

It's an Orion 1770a with vga output, 1280x1024 60 and has lasted for years. I could get it working up to about Ubuntu 9.x, then even longwindedly farting around with xrandr stopped working too.
    If...

Re: Chromium Likely to Replace Firefox

Of course it's on topic! The thread is about changes to Ubuntu, and them being pointless or not.
They should fix stuff that's not working properly before changing stuff that ain't broken.

Re: Chromium Likely to Replace Firefox

    I don't need a dock.
It's like cars. You get the one you want and then stick with it.
No point in getting a car that might turn into a JCB or a tricycle next month.

    These endless and frequent...

Re: Chromium Likely to Replace Firefox

Well DUH! Go search for "resolution"!
It's an issue that affects countless thousands which could be solved by a GUI where you simply punch in the resolution and refresh rate you want instead of...

Re: Chromium Likely to Replace Firefox

Instead of endless pointless changes they should improve the reliability of what's there, like:

How about making a GUI where you can set your undetected monitor to the correct resolution?

    I...

    Re: **! Resolution !**

Oh dear, I see what the problem is.
Nobody who knows how to write Linux is actually able to make a GUI so one can set *ANY* desired resolution manually.

  17. Re: Howto: Mustek 1200 UB Plus USB Scanner Install / Setup

    Yipppeee it worked!

Now WTF doesn't Ubuntu do this automatically?
Next job: get it to detect a 4gb sd card, and my monitor..... :-(
  18. [gnome] Re: Also unable to set highest resolution (2560x1440) on Dell U2711

I have ALAWAYS had problems with Ubuntu not detecting one of my monitors. You'd think some geek would have fixed this eternal, serious and most basic Linux problem but they are more into their...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Manual Resolution

It's the same with every new release: They fix things that ain't broken and never fix this, the most basic of problems.
