Ok seems to be a permissions thing after todays updates, If I from the terminal as root type startx it works fine as root, I have removed the config folder from KDE but still crashes back to black...
Still pooched on Kubuntu with today's updates.
My rant was not about patience but more about if your going to offer suggestions full explanation & file locations etc would be helpful.
<Rant>Not wanting to seem bitchy but saying I disabled Blah or blacklist blah is not helpful without some explanation. I'm very Linux savy on the server side but some of these posts are not...
Strangely even after removing the Nvidia driver it then borks loading nouveau driver even on older kernels
I too am experiencing this on my laptop (nvidia driver) I have removed nvidia* & purged out all nvidia drivers & now it allows me to logon but then dumps me back to a terminal.
This works fine for me, does anyone know how to make this stick?

BTW have dual boot with Android 4.4.2 the touchpad works ok in Android
Have installed Kubuntu & having same touchpad issues. Hopefully will have a answer soon. I have just updated to 14.04 beta to see if later kernel works but unfortunatly not.

I too use Synaptic (is the 1st thing I install) but it would be nice to fix or replace something that is so badly damaged in Kubuntu.
I think it's way past the time of supporting Muon, surely KDE has something better than this buggy software in it's armoury?

I disable root ssh logons so you have to be on the console to logon as root then all you do is ssh as a user then once you are in you su - then you are root.
