  1. [ubuntu] Re: Can't SSH into server until I ping something

Hmmm, well, I'm not sure what exactly fixed it, but I'm no longer having this issue. I went on to work on some other network-related tasks, and in the process of setting those up, this issue...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Can't SSH into server until I ping something

More information. Apparently, after successfully SSHing into the server, then closing putty, I won't be able to SSH into the server again after a few minutes. It seems the connection "wakes up" when...

I'm having a weird problem, and I'm not sure what to do about it. When I reboot the server, then try to SSH into it from...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't ping IPs or domains in Ubuntu Server 12.04

Fixed the Explorer problem. I needed to reconfigure my Samba share, as it got messed up during my reinstall of Ubuntu Server. I can now access the sever through the Windows GUI, as well as SSH into...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't ping IPs or domains in Ubuntu Server 12.04

Ah, adding the dns-nameservers line did the trick.

Now the issue is that I can't access the server from my Windows machines through the GUI. Navigating to \\192.168.1.104 in Explorer gives me a...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't ping IPs or domains in Ubuntu Server 12.04

I feel like an idiot. Turns out the ethernet cable was slightly loose. But I'm still not out of the woods just yet. I can now ping Google's IP (8.8.8.8), but ping google.com gives me an unknown host...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't ping IPs or domains in Ubuntu Server 12.04

iptables -L says lists the policy for INPUT, FORWARD, and OUTPUT as ACCEPT.

arp -n lists both of the IPs I tried to ping and says that the HWaddress is incomplete.

    Re: OpenGL/GLUT error

Ah, I actually just figured it out. This line:

    glutInitDisplayMode(GL_DOUBLE | GL_RGB | GL_DEPTH);

    ...should be

[ubuntu] Re: JACK giving me trouble

ls -al /dev/raw1394 gave me this:

    crw-rw---- 1 root video 171, 0 2010-01-07 13:43 /dev/raw1394

Which it seems is correct. And the command groups says I'm in both audio and video (and disk)...

[ubuntu] Re: JACK giving me trouble

Excellent, so now the real-time error is gone. I was already a member of both audio and video, but the limits.conf file hadn't been set up for audio. However, I now have a new error from JACK:

  18. [ubuntu] Nvidia graphics card drivers giving me trouble

  19. [ubuntu] Re: Can't click with usb mouse or trackpad buttons

Quick update: the problem seems to be intermittent. The mice (the built-in and usb) clicks were working completely, then stopped. Now they're working again. Rebooting does not seem to be a way to...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Can't click with usb mouse or trackpad buttons

Would screwed up drivers explain why my laptop's built-in mouse doesn't work either? It's the same story with that: I can move with the track pad but can't click.
  21. [ubuntu] Can't click with usb mouse or trackpad buttons

Ok, this is a really bizarre problem. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 about a month ago, and everything has worked great. But a couple days ago, the buttons on my wireless usb mouse stopped working. I'd...
