The problem was in cupsd.conf.

The line

Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock

was repeated twice

dpkg -s cups
Package: cups
Status: install ok installed

I wanted to get to localhost:631 to deal with a printer problem.

After upgrade to 13.04 neither Firefox or Chromium browsers will access localhost. Chromium says "Chromium's connection attempt to localhost was rejected".

From this it looks as if your main Ubuntu is on sda2 and you wouldn't want to delete that.

Since moving to 12.10 I find any CD drive or USB stick I add shows 2 icons on the desktop. It also applies to an unmounted partition on the hdd.

I had a lot of similar problems with kernel 2.6.32-24. I went back to 2.6.32-23 and they seemed to stop. I then removed 2.6.32-24 and then re-installed it.

So far (2 days) no problems.

When I boot up I have internet for a time then it disappears after a few minutes.

Looking at syslog it seems to happen after cron.daily runs (may be coincidence).

On reboot cron.daily didn't...
