Sorted the partitioning question as per this thread --> Partitioning Schema for LAMP Server

    The basic...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Does this make sense as a partition schema for a LAMP server?

    / ] 5 Gb
    /usr ] 5 Gb
    /var ] 100 Gb
    /home ] 208.1 Gb
    swap ] 2 Gb

Got the RAID1 set up without any issues and install went on a treat at last.

    [ubuntu] Re: Installing KDE

Do those command lines apply equally to installing KDE on top of a server install?
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Does this make sense as a partition schema for a LAMP server?

Yep, that's the sort of information I'm looking for. I'm slowly getting my head around the way in which the file structures are set up in Ubuntu and han't twigged that /www was sitting under /var -...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Does this make sense as a partition schema for a LAMP server?

Anyone want to offer an opinion, or should I try a similar question in the server forum?

  9. [ubuntu] Re: Can't get server through base install (corrupt file message)

I can understand the discouragement and share your frustration. I think I can add a little more to the picture now though that may be of some assistance. Today I got hold of a new new SATA DVD Writer...
  10. [ubuntu] [SOLVED] Guidance Saught on Partitioning for LAMP Server, Particularly On Recommended

I keep hoping someone might be able to chip in and suggest something - any takers?
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Can't get server through base install (corrupt file message)

For my next trick, I tried running the desktop 'live' demo, which came up a treat on first time of asking. After a few runs round the demo to see what's what, I hit the install option. This went...
  13. Poll: Re: What is your age and what do you use ubuntu for?

  14. [ubuntu] Re: Can't get server through base install (corrupt file message)

    No joy...

Apropos of nothing, the first file that fails comes up with the following:

    Warning: file:///cdrom/pool/main/c/coreutils/coreutiles_6.10-3ubuntu2_i386.deb was corrupt

    Any...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Can't get server through base install (corrupt file message)

A few more things tried, but not exactly what you'd call progress. Seems both optical drives had been jumpered on their 'cable select' pins on one IDE ribbon cable. Switched those back across to...

I'm very much a linux newbie, but trying to get there, albeit slowly.

I'm trying to create a standard LAMP server using a 'Hardy Heron' 8.04.1 LTS distro I got from Linuxsales in the...
  17. [xubuntu] Re: Debootstrap warning during Xubuntu install

I've just got the same thing happening with a Hardy Heron 8.04.1 LTS distro from Linuxsales - surely that shouldn't have the same problem should it?
