    Re: Linux Core Help

    The other reason I'm consiering a change, is that often when I need to upgrade a particular application, I have a couple of choices: If it's not up to date in the repos or backports, then I have to...

    Someone else mentioned Arch, which I've been researching the last couple of days. I'm not a newbie, but I wouldn't classify myself as a power user either. I've had to manually configure my print...

    Linux Core Help

    I am not a new linux user, I've been using Kubuntu since 2006 and currently have 8.04 installed. I am wondering if there are some resources for me to learn the core things regarding configuring...

    [kubuntu] Re: Unable to upgrade to 8.04.2

    I found that when I tried to update wine, one of the packages were broken, so I fixed that problem, and all the 51 packages with the 8.04.2 update installed, except for the newer kernel. I don't...

  13. [kubuntu] Re: Error when playing dvd - libdvdcss IS installed {SOLVED}

    mc4man mentioned the fix...at least it worked for me.

    Here's how I made Kaffeine work properly:
    * I have libdvdcss from medibuntu installed.
    * I'm running Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy -32 bit with...

    [kubuntu] Re: New NVIDIA driver issues- 169.12

    I'm not interested in autmating the process, I can install them manually just fine. The problem is with the drivers themselves.

    [kubuntu] Re: New NVIDIA driver issues- 169.12

    I'm pretty sure I tried that method and had the same problem. It's been so long, I'm just gonna wait until 8.10 and move from there, I think. Feisty support will be dead by then anyway.

    [kubuntu] Re: New NVIDIA driver issues- 169.12

    I wasn't going to try another distro just to see if this is working. I've accepted that I either need to use older drivers to work properly, or not update Kubuntu to a new release. It's annoying,...

    [kubuntu] Re: New NVIDIA driver issues- 169.12

    @Anlace

    No I have not. I've tweaked just about every setting. The only way for me to use hardy is to fall back to the 96.43 drivers. Every driver after that gives me these problems. I'm still...

    [kubuntu] Re: New NVIDIA driver issues- 169.12

    I doubt there is only 3-4 people with this problem. I don't know how many bug reports have been filed or threads posted on the NV forums. If the new drivers aren't detecting DVI output and EDID...

    [kubuntu] Re: New NVIDIA driver issues- 169.12

    Yep, pretty much. I think with most people the EDID thing is killing their displays. It's killed mine no matter what way I install the drivers (any version past 96.43). I can't get an NV board...

  25. [kubuntu] Re: Logout/KDM broke with NVIDIA manually installed drivers?!?

    I have that same issue with Feisty now...and if I remember correctly, every time I installed the nvidia driver manually, that issue occurred. I'll try to see if a bug report has been filed.
