    As a temporary workaround, I have found that


    sudo aptitude search

    searches packages not installed, like apt-cache search used to. Still wish I could figure out what is going on here..

    Same here - improvement in apps like OOo and Gimp. That's enough for me - I don't need gaim to load faster, for example, because its already pretty quick - what makes this worthwhile is the savings...
