I was just checking out the website, looking at starling netbooks. It has said you are out of stock for quite some time, and that the new version would be arriving in June of 2010. Are you guys still...
My 3½ year old System76 Gazelle is getting to the end of its run. It has taken a lot of abuse, but I'm beginning to think it won't last much longer.
I'm planning to replace it with a Netbook, and...
There is only one account, the one I'm posting from. I don't know the password, but my laptop is still logged in with cookies.
There is no chance of checking the old e-mail, as it was an account...
I've recently discovered that the password stored in my password manager for Ubuntuforums is incorrect, and I have no idea what my password is (it was randomly generated). On top of that, I've...
I run Xmarks on several different computers, and I've only been asked for my password when I set it up on each computer. I believe it uses Firefox's password manager for storing your username and...
I believe .dmg files can only be opened under Linux if they are not compressed or encrypted. I'm not sure how you can identify a compressed dmg though.
[Edit]
cofeecat's link already covered this...
My fiancée's laptop hard drive died earlier this week. I ordered a replacement for newegg, and the problem with the replacement is rather bizarre.
The drive is a Fujitsu MHZ2160BH-G2, which is...
Can't you specify a file within your filesystem as a hibernate file, without swapping to it? That way you could have hibernation, but not be concerned about the extra frequent writes to the drive.

Things like ClamAV aren't going to help. As others have stated, rootkit hunters may turn something up, but that's unlikely, particularly if you're not running an Open SSH port.
ClamAV scans files...
As far as I can tell. I'm usually just using a mouse or phone (for OBEX) at a relatively close distance, and I've never had a problem. I've not tried at any significant distances.
I got one of these. It's small enough that I never take it out. I throw my laptop in my backpack with it still plugged in, and I haven't had any problems.
It works pretty well, and isn't much...
System76 absolutely supports their systems. If you buy a computer from just about anyone else, you're completely on your own with regard to Linux.
I have a System76 laptop that I bought two years...
Like most of the others here, I'm going to have to say definitely not.
The freedom is one of the bigger things that sets it apart from Windows. Suppose Ubuntu cost $20. What does that $20 get you?...
I've been experiencing the exact same thing on the GAZV3 for quite some time. Here is a bug report that has been on launchpad since September.
I have a Gazelle Value 3 that has a built in SD slot. I was wondering if it would work with SDHC cards. Any idea?
I've run MythTV on a desktop for several years. I consider it to be a critical box that should have maximum uptime, so I don't change its configuration or run dist-upgrades very often.
I first...
I got my Gazelle 2 years ago next Thursday, but I don't recall a separate home partition. Sounds like this might have changed since then, and regardless migrating to a separate home partition is...
I've often thought the same thing. There are a number of things Apple does that irritate me, but they've got the sales and marketing thing down.
The thing is, the cost of running an online store...
I've got a little problem with the menu.lst changing with software updates.
I have two computers that have distinct /boot partitions. When I did the installation, the /boot folder was part of the...
Can you do a standard dist-upgrade? Feisty (7.04) is out of support, but I believe the repositories are still up. If you go to the update manager, it should give you the opportunity to upgrade. Just...
Bluetooth is a protocol, and Ubuntu has a standard implementation. It's plausible that there are bluetooth adapters that wouldn't have drivers for Linux (I'm not aware of any), but bluetooth devices...
Looks pretty nice.
I'm hoping to get a couple more years out of my old Gazelle, but it's good to see that S76 is staying with the game.
I switched to an ext2 boot partition. I copied my data to my home directory, formatted as ext2, moved the data back, edited grub/menu.lst to point to the new UUID, ran grub and installed grub using...
There are a few of problems with this.
First, some of the development I'm doing requires data be outside of /home, and I'd like to keep this encrypted in the event that my laptop were stolen.
