  1. [ubuntu] Re: Hosting many domains with many people working on them?

I've thought about using userdir before, but from what I can't tell it's really only for giving users webspace under a domain that's hosted somewhere else.

Like, you may have example.com in...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Hosting many domains with many people working on them?

My issue is more about access control. We hire contractors to work on individual sites and I want to keep their access limited to just that site.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal if I were just...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Hosting many domains with many people working on them?

    Bump, plus some more details.

The thing that is most like what I'm trying to do is setting up a shared web host. I want each domain to belong to a specific user which can read/write to the...

    [ubuntu] Setting umask for www-data?

I'm using 10.04 and am having some problems setting the umask for www-data.

I want to use a umask of 002 when the web server creates files, but nothing I do changes it from the default. I've tried...
  6. [ubuntu] Hosting many domains with many people working on them?

I'm hosting a lot of sites, right now the number is around 20. While we don't allow just anyone access to the server we do have to hire contractors to work on some specific sites.

    I've tried...
  7. [xubuntu] Re: Network settings lost when cable is unplugged/plugged in.

I've attached a simple diagram of my network.

I can't SSH to the server since it no longer has a valid network configuration.

From what I can tell, what happens is that eth2, at the very least,...
  8. [xubuntu] Re: Network settings lost when cable is unplugged/plugged in.

    Below is my interfaces file.

    auto lo eth3 eth2
    iface lo inet loopback

    iface eth2 inet static
    address 90.0.0.1
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    broadcast 90.0.0.255
  9. [xubuntu] Re: Network settings lost when cable is unplugged/plugged in.

    Bump

Every time my wireless router goes down my networking settings are all lost. Since this is on a server that doesn't have a monitor attached this is pretty annoying.
  10. [xubuntu] Network settings lost when cable is unplugged/plugged in.

Running /etc/init.d/networking restart restores my connection, but the moment a cable is removed or added I either lost my networking settings, or they get changed to something else. The settings in...

[all variants] Re: External Hard Drive won't mount

Did you ever get a fix for this?

I'm having exactly the same issue:
USB drive died, trying to use ntfsfix, but it's crashing.

I love the irony that the tool I'm trying to use to fix my drive...
  12. [SOLVED] Re: HOWTO: Share a scanner on the network in Lucid Lynx

Thanks for the info, I followed it and it worked great.

Only one change I would suggest. In the client setup section it should be noted that you have to add the server as a 'client' of itself in...

[xubuntu] Re: Scan button on HP psc 1350

Thanks, this is basically 90% of what I need. Not quite as simple as just having a network share that the image is written to when Scan is pressed, but it will still let users use the scanner without...

[xubuntu] Re: Scan button on HP psc 1350

Yes, but it wouldn't be all that hard to kick off a scan command when the scan button press event comes on the usb connection. It seems like someone must have gotten this working.

[xubuntu] Scan button on HP psc 1350

I'm able to scan using both xsane and the HPLIP utility however I can't figure out how to respond to a Scan button press on the device itself.

In the HP Device Manager there's a section about...
