  1. Emacs doesn't treat underscores as whitespace anymore

I'm using Kubuntu 13.04 and Emacs 23.4.1. Recently I have noticed that in many modes (programming modes, especially) Emacs doesn't treat underscores as whitespace. That means that if I have a...
  2. [kubuntu] Avoid auto-reconfigure of screens when I disconnect external monitor

I'm running Kubuntu 13.04 on a Dell Precision M4700 (using an nvidia driver and bumblebee, if that matters).

Whenever I connect or disconnect an external monitor, the screens automatically...
  3. [SOLVED] Re: Emacs only starts with -nw after upgrade to 13.04

Great! I upgraded gtk2-engines-oxygen, installed emacs23 (and automatically removed emacs23-lucid), and now emacs starts as it should.
  4. [SOLVED] Re: Okular won't open for inverse search from Emacs

I don't know what happened, but forward and inverse search do work. So it was just a thing with the spaces, then. Problem solved.

And thanks for your input, SeijiSensei.
  5. [SOLVED] Re: Okular won't open for inverse search from Emacs

Actually, I didn't quite solve it. Although Okular starts now, forward and inverse search no longer works...

For the record, there are two ways I can make Okular start from emacs when the path...
  6. [SOLVED] Re: Okular won't open for inverse search from Emacs

    Ah.... I solved it.

The problem was that my current document was in a path that had a space in it. I renamed the "spaced" directory, and now everything is as before.

    Annoying, though, that it...
  7. [SOLVED] Re: Emacs only starts with -nw after upgrade to 13.04

Good point. But actually, when I do "About Emacs" from my emacs (/usr/bin/emacs23-lucid) I get the following message

This is GNU Emacs, one component of the GNU/Linux operating system.

    GNU...
  8. [SOLVED] Okular won't open for inverse search from Emacs

Lately, Okular won't open when trying to view a latex document from Emacs (using AucTex)

The command line sent by the View command is

    okular --unique status.pdf#src:1`pwd`/./status.tex

    If I...
  9. [SOLVED] Re: Emacs only starts with -nw after upgrade to 13.04

Did you try running emacs23-lucid, or emacs24-lucid, instead? That works for me (although with a slightly uglier interface).
  10. Re: kbackgroundsnapshot -c does not work (for capturing current window)

Thanks for the tip! "scrot -ub" does exactly what I want.

I'll mark the thread as solved even though kbackgroundsnapshot still doesn't work.
  11. kbackgroundsnapshot -c does not work (for capturing current window)

I have noticed that "kbackgroundsnapshot -c" to capture a screenshot of the current window does not work in Kubuntu 12.10 or 13.04. At least not with my computer. I only get a corrupted or blank PNG...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

I have now upgraded to Kubuntu 13.04 (first an upgrade, but now a clean install), and I still see the same problem. After a bit of more troubleshooting, I see that I get the slowness problem also on...
  13. [kubuntu] I lost the dialog to confirm reconfiguration when unplugging 2nd monitor

On a clean installation of Kubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 I know that KDE would pop up a dialog whenever I unplugged or replugged an external monitor to my laptop. However, now that dialog is gone, and...
  14. [SOLVED] Emacs only starts with -nw after upgrade to 13.04

After today's upgrade from Kubuntu 12.10 to 13.04, Emacs only starts with "emacs -nw". It's the same for both emacs23 and emacs24. I have tried running with --live-safe-mode and --debug-init, but...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

I started to think this was related to bumblebee (or bbswitch), but maybe not.

I have a new, clean, Kubuntu 12.10 installation on a separate partition on the HDD. Everything is on the same...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

    Yes. Strange, isn't it?

    Anyway, here are my conclusions.

With "noapic", I get lag both after suspend/resume, and after (un)plugging the AC adapter
With "nolapic", I can suspend, but still...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

Now I booted with nolapic, and the AC adapter unplugged. Things going OK. Then I plugged in the AC, and now "apt-get update" is slow again. Go figure.

There are no "parse/execution failed" ACPI...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

I found this thread, which describes a problem with the very same error messages that appeared with "noapic" but not with "nolapic". In that case, it had to do with an AC adapter, and apparently the...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

Thanks for the info and the link, dibl!

I'm currently running with the "nolapic" boot option, and this setting seems to be good. I have done three suspends and have a total uptime of 10:58, and...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

    Here are my latest findings.

I have tried a few ACPI-related boot options.

With acpi=off, I can't suspend at all, the fan is constantly storming, and I can't use the touchpad. Other than...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

At the moment I'm trying to run with acpi=off as a boot option. I've been seeing several ACPI-related error messages in the logs, so I'm starting to suspect it has something to do with that.

    So...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

I tried disabling optimus, but then I couldn't get full resolution on my screen. I didn't want to struggle more with that, so I reenabled it (together with bumblebee and bumblebee-nvidia).

I'll keep using this thread to document my trouble shooting, in the hope that it will be helpful in the future.

Regarding the 00:0a device, that seems to be a PS/2 controller. "dmesg | grep 00:0a"...

[kubuntu] Re: Very slow SDD/HDD performance

I'm going through the log files, trying to see if there's any indication there of what is happening when suspending and resuming. One error that always comes up is in kern.log
