  1. [ubuntu] Re: Help with selecting the best Hard Drive for Ubuntu Server and Xbmcbuntu

It's still a bit pricey at the moment but everybody seems to be raging about SSDs.
I've also recently set up an XBMCbuntu media center in my lounge and have found that with so many online streamed...

    Re: Archey comes to Ubuntu

Nice, I used Archey when I ran Arch. I just installed it on Ubuntu and Debian..... any chance of a Crunchbang Statler (Debian based) version?

I just added it to Ubuntu, Debian and Crunchbang....

The ventrilo_srv command depends on where you installed it. For example:

Yeah, there's the problem. Your apt-cache size is too small:
Unfortunately, the solution that the (Debian) man pages suggests will only work with Debian, not Ubuntu as there is no /etc/apt.conf...

    First clean the apt cache:

    or

As var has only got 800Mb allocated cleaning /var/cache/apt/archives will at least allow you to use a smaller sized cache.

In failing that, just up the cache...

Sorry, I'm not familiar with how Usbview works. I just use the command line.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Update Manager never shows any new updates.

I just checked mine which uses the French and Finnish mirrors, no updates for me either.
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Update Manager never shows any new updates.

Don't worry about it, it's just that there are no updates/upgrades. I know it seems that there are updates every other day, but sometimes there's not much action in the repos.

    If you are really...

[ubuntu] Re: Unable to mount usb

    Hi kjartani
Firstly, if you are just trying to mount a USB device, it should automatically open in Nautilus unless there is a problem.

    [ubuntu] Re: how to hack

There is a common misconception of the term "Hacking" thanks to media journalists and the misinformed.

  15. Poll: Re: Poll: Which design do you like the most (blueprints inside)?

Ok, thanks. I'll keep an eye on the project and if/when you have a Chrome extension i'll definitely use it.

It would probably be a good idea for you to port it like other popular Firefox plugins...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: I want that some programs run automatically in boot

If you only have the terminal and no desktop, you can add programs in the /etc/rc.local file.

Then just add the ones you want, and reboot.

    It looks like this:
  17. [ubuntu] Re: File permissions are driving me batty....!!!!

The terminal can seem a bit daunting. But don't worry, it's quite simple once you get used to it.

    Open the Terminal and type:

Press "Enter" and your (Nautilus) file manager will open.

    Next...

Wow! I've never seen this before, and I am a huge fan of IMDB. I like the left-hand idea with just a single icon. It's less cluttered and menus can always be added-to.

    Will this addon also be...

As an alternative, just as a suggestion, my wife and I use Google Chrome on our netbooks, and as we are Youtube fans, we use Html5 instead of flash to view videos. No slowdown and no lockups.
