some of the devices I use require the full bandwidth of a usb port
and can't be used with a hub. The devices often are at a remote
location and the cost for compatible USB extenders...

I have an old decommissioned PC I want
to find a use for...

To no avail apart from commercial options
I want to use it as a big USB hub

mounting shared drives is fine

but I want to...

bump, and you seem to be at the same place as me and installed the MBR as you have and when I reboot into linux I just get a flashing cursor

I went off and got a Wacom as my university course started, but this thread needs a bump.

I've attached a USB-SER cable to my Aiptek 6000.
I've tinkered about with the USB driver but no response.

I'm too much of a newbie to mess too much
But if a USB-SER cable works...

Anyway the 6000 users have been silently grateful
until support vanished. Now they're saying oi!
