portablestew: Wow - It works, Ubuntu 11.10. My perl was in a different place, and I commented-out the check-for-newer-version bit, but the rest worked. Thanks!

With Ubuntu 11.04 I could always open /dev/dvd with vlc and it would play. With an earlier version of Ununtu and the latest, 11.10, /dev/dvd would work but only after:
sudo ln -s /dev/scd0...
I have a 32bit karmic install. Network:/// and sftp:/// don't work. Removing gvfs, including gvfs-backends, and reinstalling didn't help. Removing nautilus and re-installing didn't help, either. ...
My problem has been a little more difficult. I have a Karmic server so everything has to be commandline (no gparted). And, it won't do software RAID1.
I slipped both 2TB Samsung drives into a...
I know this is an old thread, but just in case this helps anybody: I was getting

I got mine to work, too. Had fetch and compile the latest vpnc-nortel:
svn co http://svn.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/vpnc/branches/vpnc-nortel/
cd vpnc-nortel
make
Copied the included vpnc-script...
"cat /etc/resolv.conf". The first entry is probably the IP address of your router. "sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf" and remove that line and (and save the file) and see if the internet immediately...

The hint was here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sudo/+bug/234879
The bug is about there not being an entry for localhost in /etc/hosts. Well, it was there, on the first line, BUT...
I don't know, but https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DOSBox looks pretty straightforward. Where are you hung-up? Did you get it installed ok and mount some drives?
We've seen the gksudo error before:
bash > gksudo -d echo hi

I'm not sure what you mean by "resetting the route information" but it sounds like /etc/resolv.conf is not being changed back to list your nameservers.
Execute, to see what it really is:

Marcs and Adrian; What is the output from:
sudo mount -a
And what does your /etc/fstab say about the drives?
That fixed it for me. My specific steps were:
sudo aptitude reinstall ntfs-3g
sudo mv /usr/local/lib/libfuse.so.2 /usr/local/lib/libfuse.so.2.old
sudo ln -s /lib/libfuse.so.2.7.2...
execute:
man ntfsundelete
Basically, it lists deleted files or, optionally, undelete's them. Teh only tricky bit is that it uses hte device name ("/dev/hdb1") instead of the mout point...
Did that. Now I'm "...not priveleged to mount the volume '<ntfs partiiton'>". And, "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote...
You're lucky. I execute "/sbin/mount.ntfs --help" and get:
/sbin/mount.ntfs: /usr/local/lib/libfuse.so.2: version `FUSE_2.7' not found (required by /sbin/mount.ntfs)
Which, coincidentaly, is...
In a terminal execute:

When I do it, for every ntfs drive I see:

If you started two weeks ago, why are you looking for edgy files? It should be feisty. Or, if you have the latest ubuntu, available October 18th, gutsy. And, if your running gutsy, you don't need...
Did you run ntfs-config? I did on my NTFS winxp partitions:
